The worst wedding favours to give to your guests

The worst wedding gifts for your guests: Sugared almondsThe worst wedding gifts for your guests: Sugared almonds

Sugared almonds

These hard-as-nails confectionery are about as original as an innuendo-laden best man’s speech. The cheap-tasting sugar coated almonds have been forced upon wedding guests for decades, so don’t you think it’s time for something a little more original and up to date? We’re all for tradition when it comes to weddings, but some customs need to be put to bed. To transport your favours into the twenty first century, opt instead for chocolate truffles in miniature gift boxes, cupcakes in jars or cake pops for a tasty and tasteful gift for your guests.

Personalised memorabilia

Despite being on the more expensive side of things, personalised stationery, mugs, t-shirts and socks don’t do justice to the amount you paid for them. The idea of giving your guests a gift that they can use again and again after the wedding isn’t a bad one, it’s just; will your aunties, uncles and cousins really use a mug with a picture of you and your partner on? Or will it be lovingly stored away to gather dust? Likewise, socks stitched with the date of your wedding day or a key ring with a picture of you both kissing will seem about as appealing to your guests as stale wedding cake.

Sachets of potpourri

Similar to the sugared almonds mentioned previously, voile sachets of sickly-smelling potpourri won’t win over your wedding guests and may be just as easily discarded as the paper napkins. This old fashioned trend isn’t quite the ‘one size fits all’ favour you should be aiming for, as we can’t imagine the guys and kiddies attending your big day will be excited in the slightest by this offering – and that’s not to say your female guests will love it, either. As an alternative, why not choose scented soaps in boxes with each guest’s initials on? Or if you wanted something gender specific, then how about pretty compact mirrors for the ladies and mini bottle openers for the guys?

Cheesy wedding gifts

Weddings open up lots of opportunities to be cheesy and overly romantic – after all, weddings are a day devoted to love and happiness. However, try not to give into soppiness by incorporating anything too corny in your wedding favours. We’re talking a jar of sand from the beach where you got engaged, a snow globe with a photograph of the both of you inside or a book of love poems you have chosen together. Your wedding guests will be loved up already from the beautiful ceremony and witnessing you exchange wedding vows, so there’s no need to overdo it and end up making them feel queasy. Leave that to the eighth glass of champagne and extra slices of wedding cake.

Useless favours

Who really needs a pack of playing cards, a photo-print coaster or a keepsake coin imprinted with the date of your wedding? Once you have forked out for tens of these bric-a-brac favours, you could have made a reasonable donation to charity or put some money behind the bar instead. While it’s nice to leave a little something at each guest’s place setting, if you’re going to choose pointless gifts that won’t be used again (novelty glasses, fake moustaches or Christmas cracker-style toys all deserve a mention here) you may as well use the money somewhere more beneficial. The Shocking Reason You May Be Tired

So my doctor prescribed two medications, including a synthetic thyroid hormone to replace what my body was having trouble making. It turns out that my story is actually quite common, especially since the risk for thyroid disorders tends to increase as you get older-and women are up to eight times more likely than men to develop one. I was also surprised to learn that having an underactive thyroid is the most common problem, but it can be tricky to diagnose. The gold standard for measuring …
