Which city is the cheapest to live in?

While Tokyo may have topped The Economist’s bi-annual list for the world’s most expensive cities to live in for 2013, the report released this week also detailed the cheapest cities to live in with Karachi, Pakistan coming in as the least expensive.

In the latest edition of the Worldwide Cost of Living report prepared by The Economist’s Intelligence Unit, five of the bottom 10 cheapest cities hail from the Indian subcontinent, defined as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

For their results, analysts compare more than 400 prices across 160 products and service such as food, clothing, household supplies, rent, utility and recreational costs.

Results are compared to the base city of New York.

Here are the top 10 cheapest cities to live in for 2013:

1.      Karachi, Pakistan
2.      Mumbai, India
3.      New Delhi, India
4.      Kathmandu, Nepal
5.      Algiers, Algeria
6.      Bucharest, Romania
7.      Colombo, Sri Lanka
8.      Panama City, Panama
9.      Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
10.     Tehran, Iran
