What to pack for a winter vacation

Are you traveling abroad this Christmas to a country that actually experiences a “White Christmas?” If so, you need to make sure you pack clothes that will keep you warm and toasty in the snow. If you think that your thickest coat is enough, check the weather conditions and temperature before you leave, because a jacket thick enough for a cold day in Baguio might not make the cut.

Here's a checklist of what you should bring on a winter trip:

Thermal underwear
Also called long underwear, this is made of wool and artificial fibers that trap heat, keeping you warm in cold weather. Wear these to sleep or even under your clothes when you go out.

Heavy duty boots
Leave the stiletto boots at home and opt for something that is more friendly to walking around. After all, you are a visitor who will want to see the sites and the local scene. Make sure your shoes are warm and comfortable! Bring thick, wool socks!

Leather or nylon jacket
Use this as an overcoat with lots of layers under. Leather and Nylon will stop the cold wind from entering through your clothes and will keep you warm even in the coldest weather.

Bring lots of tank tops and long sleeved tees to layer under your coat. A coat, no matter how heavy, will not be enough to keep you comfortably warm if you are outdoors for long periods of time.

Gloves, scarves and a beanie
Aside from your feet, you also must not forget to keep your hands warm as well. Leather or wool gloves should do the trick along with a nice fuzzy beanie for your head. A thick scarf around your neck will keep you from getting sick.

Is there any use for sunscreen in cold weather? Yes! As long as the sun is out, you can still be prone to sun damage, and even more so when there is snow, which reflect a big percentage of the sun's ultraviolet rays.
