5 styling tips to tame your curly hair

Whether your curls are in the form of big waves, corkscrews or if you are prone to the dreaded frizzies, chances are, you are always on the lookout for ways to tame your tresses.

But, it’s far easier than you think.

So before you schedule yet another rebonding session, check out these tips on how to have gorgeous hair in its natural state.

1. Cut down on the shampoo.
Unlike straight-haired girls, women with curly hair need as much natural oils as possible to keep frizz away. Don't shampoo every time you wash your hair. Instead, alternate shampoo days with days when you only use conditioner to soften curls and keep their shape.

2. A wide-tooth comb is your best friend.
Use a cream-based shampoo when washing your hair and, in addition to your fingers, use a wide-tooth comb to make sure you get the product deep into your scalp not just allow it to settle on top of your hair. This is also a great help for removing tangles whether your hair is wet or dry. Never use a normal brush—your hair will frizz up. For curly hair, the less brushing, the better!

3. Air dry wet hair.
Heat styling products such as blow dryers and curling irons dry out any type of hair, but most especially curly hair. Air drying is the best, after you’ve added a bit of product such as mousse so that curls will hold their shape and have some bounce. If you are really in a rush and need your hair dry ASAP, keep your blow dryer on the lowest setting possible.

4. Choose the right hairstylist.
Getting the right hairstylist who knows how to manage curly hair is essential as he or she will give you the perfect cut to help minimize styling time. Often, curly-haired girls can't have the exact same hairstyle as straight- haired girls and not all stylists know the difference. So, choose wisely!

5. Don't rub your hair with a towel.
Rubbing your wet hair with a towel will definitely bring out the frizz. Instead, squeeze and pat dry before scrunching with your fingers with some product.
