What’s your chocolate personality?

Earlier this year, Magnum--that addictive and almost sold-out Belgian chocolate ice-cream bar by Unilever-RFM Ice Cream Inc.—became a buzzword among chocolate ice-cream bar eating fans.  Talk of midnight 7-11 Magnum runs, empty chillers and mad cravings ensued while happy customers posted photos of themselves eating the ubiquitous (and sometimes elusive) bar on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.  Fans asked each other, “What’s your favorite flavor?” with people pledging loyalty to either the Classic, Almond or Chocolate Truffle variants.

This time around, there’s a new flavor in town, one that’s pleased both coffeephiles and chocolate lovers: Choco-Cappuccino, a mixture of two previous flavor variants.  Already folks have begun to renounce their old favorite in favor of the new variant.

Chocolate psychology

Whichever flavor you prefer, there (almost) seems to be an ice-cream bar for everyone. (Maybe white chocolate lovers should start a petition to bring in one of Magnum’s white chocolate variants over from abroad?)  Experts believe that each chocolate flavor profile translates to a distinct flavor personality.  With that in mind, have you ever wondered what it means when you proclaim, “My choice is Classic/Almond/Chocolate Truffle/Choco-Cappuccino”?

Murray Langham, a New Zealand psychotherapist and author of “Chocolate Therapy: Dare to discover your Inner Self,” believes that one’s choice of chocolate reveals much about his or her mood.  According to the Daily Organized Chaos website, Alan Hirsche, the founder of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, seconds that.  He discovered that one’s favorite chocolate reveals a whole lot about one’s personality.

Translating that into Magnum-speak, here’s what we concluded:

If you’re a Classic Chocolate lover:
When you prefer milk chocolate and simple flavors, you’re the sensitive thinker of the bunch. You’re compassionate by nature, and you hate being rushed; you like to take time to think about ideas before acting on them.

If you’re a Chocolate Truffle lover:
When you sway more towards dark chocolate, you’re most likely an extrovert who’s usually the life of the party. You’re definitely a people person who marches to the beat of your own drum.  You’re the cool guy or gal on the block who makes and keeps to your own rules.

If you’re an Almond lover:
When you like your chocolates filled with nuts, it means that you’re extremely friendly and nurturing to your friends and loved ones.  You choose substance over style, and you’re open-hearted; you like to give enough to those in need.

If you’re a Choco-Cappuccino lover:
When you prefer coffee-based chocolates, you’re said to be open-minded, a problem solver, and excited about the future.  Due to your onward looking nature some may see you as impatient and anxious, but you see yourself as a go-getter.
