Reasons for hating shopping: Terrible service, long lines, and boiling hot fitting rooms

Searching for clothes that fit and dealing with rude shop assistants make shopping hellish for one in three women.

A Saturday shopping spree used to be the highlight of the week for most women, but a new survey suggests we’ve gone off the idea.

One in three women hate shopping because of rude staff, long lines, and ill-fitting clothes (if they can find what they’re looking for at all).

Nearly half of the 2,000 women surveyed by online clothes retailer Marisota said that they feel intimated by store staff who are rude, obnoxious, and patronizing.

44% of women said they feel judged when they walk into a high-end store, even though they’ve got the money to pay.

It’s like a scene straight out of Pretty Woman!

37% said they hated getting undressed in fitting rooms because they can be dirty, hot and smelly.

So, why are we putting up with such terrible service? Some people have campaigned to improve standards, but it’s still common to be met by rude and distracted assistants who don’t know where to find the items you’re looking for.

If you feel like you’ve been poorly served don’t be afraid to ask for the manager and make a discreet (or very public) complaint. You don’t have to be aggressive to get your point across – just knowing a member of the public has complained will likely spur an assistant into action.

Have you had any experiences of terrible customer service? Let us know….

What do you think of Marisota’s findings?
