Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce in a 'Mad Max'-like western

Following his indie hit Animal Kingdom, Australian director David Michod is back behind the camera with a new film project starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson that recently got the greenlight by Screen Australia.

Set in the arid Australian outback, the project is a futuristic western called The Rover.

Decades after Mad Max, Australia's scorched backcountry will be used as a backdrop for this thriller set in the future. It will tell the story of a man named Eric (Guy Pearce) seeking vengeance towards the thugs who stole his car, a Rover. Robert Pattinson will play Rey, one of the car thiefs, who is left to his own devices after he gets injured.

Screen Australia has yet to provide a specific timetable for the shooting.
