Recreate Couture's Biggest Beauty Trend: Face Lace

So, it’s fair to say that facial adornments were a huge hit at the couture shows in Paris this week. From Giambattista Valli’s glitter and tropical butterflies, to the glitzy veils showcased at Dior and Riccardo Tisci’s blockbuster sunglasses, barely one designer let their models strut down the runway without some kind of facial frippery.

While the Couture hot list might be a tad unattainable to us mere mortals (we're not made of money you know), fret not you fellow beauty queens, because make-up whizz kid Phyllis Cohen has provided an affordable alternative that has just as much stand-out sass factor.

Titled ‘Face Lace’ with the tag line, ‘Peel off, stick on, show off!’ it really is that simple. Cohen has created a range of 15 intricate, ready-to-wear, lace designs that won’t fade or smudge. Say goodbye to body art cringe moments and mascara mayhem on sweaty dance floors.

We first noticed these little gems backstage at the autumn/winter 2012 catwalk shows back in February where Phyllis had conjured up beautiful bespoke creations especially for the Corrie Nielsen show.

With David Bowie and Daphne Guinness both under Phyllis’ client belt, you can expect some seriously extravagant make-up effects among the 15 sets currently available at Harvey Nichols. “Playsheets” of smaller patterns mean you can also get crafty with your own designs – where has this woman been all our lives? The fact her motifs incorporate calligraphic and ironwork flourishes learnt from her early days as an illustrator, and retail from a mere £13.95, only adds to the dream factor.

Expect more than a few compliments on your bespoke eye make-up this summer and check out the gorge gallery above.
