Newly-Wed Blake Lively Follows In Rihanna's Footsteps With A Velvet Manicure

Last week we spotted pop-rebel Rihanna had picked a French manicure with a velvety twist. She'd enlisted the services of LA nail artist Kymee Rees to give her nails a touch of luxe by applying velvet tips using Velveteen by Original Sugar. The Rude Boy singer tweeted a whole host of pictures revealing that she had replaced her usual fierce pointed talons with a softer, rounded version adorned with velvet. Lovely!

Needless to say we're all too fond of wacky new trends here at Grazia and predicted that there would be a fair few ladies following in RiRi's fabulous footsteps before too long. Sure enough, we were soon proven right when Gossip Girl Blake Lively was spotted out and about in Manhattan sporting a velvet manicure in a cool cobalt blue.Whilst Rihanna choose an uncharacteristically subtle approach with the merest sliver of velvet on the base and tips of the nail, Blake has gone one step further and plumped for an all over velvet finish using Ciate’s Velvet Manicure set in Blue Suede, £14.

With rumours swirling that Blake married the gorgeous Ryan Reynolds in a secret ceremony this weekend, we can’t help but wonder if these were super-special nails chosen for the wedding? Either way, we approve whole-heartedly, and with a selection of at-home manicure sets readily available from Ciate (the very brand used to create Blake’s look) the trend is easy to replicate. Will you be giving it a go?
