Louis Vuitton Collaborate With Artist Yayoi Kusama: FIRST LOOK!

Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has been one of the country’s most influential art exports of our time. The 82 year old artist’s recognizable repeating dot patterns in semi-abstract paintings, sculptures, photographs and performance art were recently on show in an exhibition at London’s Tate modern. It didn’t escape our notice that French fashion house Louis Vuitton supported this exhibition, so naturally we paid attention!

And today news reaches us that the label under Marc Jacobs' genius direction has collaborated with Kusama on a collection, “Infinitely Kusama”. Jacobs has continuosly impressed us with his proactive marrying of the art and fashion worlds. Stephen Sprouse’s graffiti prints were the bags to collect back in 2008, Grayson Perry’s mega-trunk blew us away last year at the Bond Street Maison, around the same time that the fashion house rather kindly sponsored Tracy Emin’s Love is What you Want solo exhibition in London. Phew what a cultured bunch they are! Marc commented on the collaboration, explaining “The obsessive character and the innocence of her artwork touched me. She succeeds in sharing her vision of the world with us.”

Now we’ve got our hands on pictures of this latest collaboration and they are exactly what we were hoping for: young without veering into kitch; fun; true to Kusama’s signature patterns and surprisingly wearable ready-to-wear and handbags. In fact we’d rather like to get our greedy mitts on them toute suite!

The first drop will land in store in just four weeks’ time on July 10th
