Jessica Simpson finally gives birth to her baby girl!

After what has seemed like the worlds longest pregnancy, Jessica Simpson has finally given birth to a baby girl.

The star and her fiance, Eric Johnson, welcomed their daughter in the early hours of the 2nd May in a luxury wing of the Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles. The new baby is obviously entering the world to a life of luxury and glamour: The suite Jessica chose for her labour comes complete with flat screen televisions, chilled juices on ice, muffin baskets, manicures and pedicures and a private dinner for two post-labour.

Jessica and Eric gave the baby the unusual name of Maxwell Drew Johnson. Maxwell apparently takes her middle name from Jessica's mother Tina, whose maiden name is Drew. And Eric's middle name is Maxwell. The name is considered unusual, as Maxwell and Drew are both names more often given to boys.

Baby Maxwell weighed in at a whopping 9lbs 13oz, which no doubt explains why Jessica had such a large baby bump towards the end of her pregnancy!

The birth was obviously a family affair, as members of the Jessica’s family were spotted arriving at the hospital with her mother Tina and sister Ashlee, along with the parents of her fiancé Eric Johnson, seen with excited looks on their faces.

Although Jessica was open about her weight gain during her pregnancy, and gave into all of her cravings, she is said to have put a grand baby weight loss plan in place after giving birth and is rumoured to be the next face of Weight Watchers for the post-baby slim down plan. We just hope she takes her weight loss slowly, and takes the time to enjoy her new arrival!

Jessica announced the new arrival on her own website, sharing the following banner, which included a message to fans: "We are so grateful for the love, support, and prayers we have recieved. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!" Congratulations to Jessica and Eric from the whole gurgle.com team!

What do you think of the name Maxwell Drew? Have you given any of your children unisex names, and has this ever caused them any problems or confusion? We'd love to hear your thoughts in our chat forum.
