You think it’s just bridezillas who stress about their big day?
As a guest, you too can worry about what you’ll wear when you’re invited to such happy occasions.
Here are answers to a few questions people often ask about the perfect hair, makeup and outfit to wear to a wedding you’re attending.
What does the invite say?
Most wedding invitations indicate what they expect their guests to wear so that’s a big cue right there. If the invite says “formal,” use that as a license to bring out your gowns and nice jewelry. If it says “casual,” don’t wear jeans! Instead, wedding casual can mean a nice sundress and sandals.
Black or white?
If you are superstitious, black, though versatile, can never really be an option for a wedding. So is white. Though black and white-themed receptions are now trendy and I’ve been to weddings where the guests were asked to wear white, it’s best to stay away from both colors unless specifically requested by the bride and groom.

Flashy or simple?
It’s not your wedding so let the bride be the star of the night. Pick a dress that is classy and makes you feel beautiful but don’t make it all about you. Remember that you are a guest and not the bride! Keep the glitter and sequins out of the picture for now.
Long or short?
Again, take a cue from the invitation. Indoor, formal affairs mean long gowns, unless you have a very formal-looking short dress. If it says “cocktail attire,” then short dresses are fine, as well as pants suits. Garden parties mean you can bring out your favorite floral maxi dresses and accessorize with fascinators or hats.
Salon or DIY?
Depends. If you were going to a formal wedding, I would go to a salon to get an up-do or a nice braid. A manicure and pedicure wouldn’t hurt either to perfect the look. If you really don’t wear makeup and have no idea what to do, get that done too. If it’s a bit more casual, go with less fussy hair (au naturel is best or maybe a bit of DIY curls) and light make-up. For garden weddings, you can get away with just blush, mascara and a bright colored lipstick.
Flats or heels?
Never wear flats with a short dress if you are in cocktail attire. No matter how tall you are, try to wear even a low heel for formal weddings. Garden or casual weddings are more forgiving so bring out your ballet flats and gladiator sandals to wear to the affair. Wedges are also appropriate for casual and garden weddings.
