How to make a shrug in 30 minutes or less

Are you looking for an easy to make, inexpensive yet stylish cover up versatile enough to be worn to work, to the mall or to a night out in town?

Keep reading, girls. I'm going to show you how to create a drape-y shrug in less the time it probably takes you to get dressed and ready each morning.  This is such an easy project that requires minimal sewing skills. You don’t even have to use a sewing machine!

All you need are the following:
1.    About a yard of fabric. A drape-y fabric such as jersey is best for this project because the edges don’t fray or tatter.  This allows you to do away with the hemming.
2.    Needle and thread
3.    Scissors
4.    2 strips of garter

Here’s what to do:
Step 1: Fold fabric lengthwise (right side facing each other).

Step 2: Make a running stitch from each end of the folded fabric (these will later be the sleeves). Keep the middle portion unsewn (approximately the width of your shoulders).

Step 3: Fold outward about 1 inch on the opening of each sleeve and sew. Leave a small opening to allow a strip of garter (which should measure a little less than the diameter of your upper arm) to pass through.

Step 4: Insert garter and sew both ends together.

Step 5: Put on your shrug and pull the gartered ends of the sleeves up to your upper arm.
