All-natural, zero-calorie sweeteners stevia and monk fruit are being hailed as potential solutions for fighting the obesity epidemic around the developed world.
Stevia is also known as sweetleaf and has a long history of being used in South America and Asia, while monk fruit is native to China and resembles small, green melons. The latter is just beginning to enter the mainstream market.
Both are hundreds of times sweeter than table sugar and clock in at zero calories.
