Forget Kate Middleton, Here's How To Get Kim Sears Hair Thanks To Charles Worthington

Last week Grazia Daily reported that Kate Middleton’s locks have been trumped in the hair do stakes by none other than Andy Murray’s avid courtside supporter and girlfriend, Miss ‘full-mane’ Sears.

Not one to view a battle of the tresses lightly, we took a trip to a Charles Worthington salon to see what all the fuss was about. “Normally when describing the hair style a client would like they specify a celebrity they have in mind. Last week we noticed a shift in women asking for Kate Middleton curls to the looser waves of Kim Sears,” notes Senior Stylist Sophie Clare. With the celeb sporting the sassy style of the moment changing in a matter of days, it seems even royalty isn’t enough to stick it out in the blow dry leagues.

The secret behind Kim’s luscious locks? It’s natural thickness, apparently. While K-Mid may lack in the lustre stakes, Andy Murray’s babe has a full-head of healthy looking hair that Wimbledon watchers are just gagging to achieve. “Women like to create something they don’t have,” says Sophie. “While Kate has a very ‘done’ look with bouncy curls, Kim’s hair is much more natural and even looks like it could have been slept on. Women feel this daytime look is more attainable.”

Forget Kate Middleton, Here's How To Get Kim Sears' Hair With The Help of Charles Worthington

1. Blow dry with a big bristle brush

So how can we achieve this undone yet chic look? The secret is in the brush, according to Sophie who tackled the tresses of Grazia’s Chiara to prove her point. Brandishing the biggest brush in the Charles Worthington tool kit, the blow dry relies on the bounce the big bristles create.

2. Curl with a curling iron

With locks about 70% dry – the magic percentage for Charles Worthington stylists – Sophie roughly curls sections of Chiara’s hair and seals with a shot of cold air. Where K-Mid hairdos would use a smaller brush for perfectly rounded, cutesy curls, the Sears look requires body or a natural ‘bend’, as Sophie calls it. And while Chiara’s waves drop once released from the momentous brush, the point of a ‘Kim’ is to look groomed but undone.

3. Add volume by back brushing

'With a soft smoothing brush, gently back brush at the root to create a little more height on the crown area as well as extra movement,' says Sophie.

4. Add a spritz of oomph

Of course, there’s a magic ingredient in the creation of this seemingly polar opposite look. Charles Worthington’s Full Volume Shampoo and Conditioner (£5.19 each) add extra oompf, but it’s the Front Row Volume Blow Dry Spray (£6.29) that truly transports your mane from lifeless locks to full-on Sears sheen.

5. Hold in place with spray

But what about the casual bend at the front of Kim’s hair that looks as though she has spent hours positioning it to frame her face? "Most probably her ‘perfect hair’ is the natural consequence of her tucking the lock behind her ear," confirms our stylist as we reel back in horror. Fret not though, dear Sears fans. For those of us who have hair unwilling to co-operate, you can tonge your front tresses into a natural looking bend. And the cheat’s guide to keeping those unruly strands in place? Charles Worthington’s Shine Maximum Hold Spray, £5.19. Hair mousse is like SO Kate Middleton, hadn’t you heard?
