Oooh here in the beauty department we have been enjoying a right old love affair with halo-style braids this summer. It all began back at the spring summer 2012 Valentino show, where beauty editors swooned at the halo braids wrapped around models' heads, before racing one another to the nearest hairdresser.

Before long, the style had appeared perched a-top the heads of Scarlett Johansson and Poppy Delevigne too. Then there was Cannes where the delightful Kirsten Dunst opted for a very similar style which incorporated twists rather than plaits and was enhanced by some rather marvellous metalwork headgear courtesy of Dolce & Gabbana's Autumn Winter 2012 collection which gave the actress an oh-so-pretty and almost regal edge.

This week our ever beady eyes have spotted that there are now even more ladies signing up for the halo hair gang. In addition to a whopping three of the Grazia Beauty team planning to sport the look at upcoming weddings this summer, Florence Welch and Candice Swanepoel, of Victoria’s Secret fame, have also been dabbling with the trend; the former wrapping her luscious auburn braids around her head Heidi style and the latter going for a half up, half down version.

Backstage stylist supreme Guido Palau, who just so happens to be the man behind the Valentino braid, explains exactly why these ethereal styles are so appealing and youth inducing. ‘This style’s huge appeal lies in the fact that it captures the perfect balance between effortless chic and Hollywood glamour,' he says. 'The secret to success lies in creating a roughed-up texture and embracing flyaways so it isn’t too perfect.’

So what are your thoughts on this brand new breed of hair? And will you be giving it a go?
