As film buffs continue to speculate over who might star in an upcoming adaptation of bestselling erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey, beauty junkies can look forward to an array of spin-off cosmetic merchandise based on the trilogy.
Penned by British writer E. L. James, the first book in the series became an international phenomenon in 2011, and subsequent titles Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed have caused just as much of a stir.
Fans of the trilogy, famed for its explicit sex scenes, can look forward to an eventual movie adaptation, although rather less predictably there will also be a beauty collection to look forward to, including perfume and other spin-off products.
In a recent release it was revealed that UK company Caroline Mickler Ltd will be the global licensing agent for merchandise.
"The market's interest in Fifty Shades of Grey as a brand is enormous. ... We expect this property to make a very strong showing," Mickler said in a statement.
As well as beauty products, the worldwide brand also looks set to comprise lingerie, jewelry, bedding and home furnishings, primarily targeted at adult women.
While the prospect of erotic fiction-themed beauty products may seem unusual, the news follows an increasing trend towards beauty lines inspired by some of the world's biggest franchises. Teen hit movie sagas adapted from works of fiction including The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games have already made their mark in the realm of cosmetics via various spin-off products.
