Just last month we reported that heiress and fashion fiend Daphne Guinness announced that she will be holding an auction of her own personal archive at Christie’s to raise money for the ‘Isabella Blow Foundation’. Well, with just a few months to go until the main event, Christie’s have unveiled several pieces of the collection to get us all in the mood. Just call it window shopping!
Daphne has a lot of friends in high places – she’s pretty much on first named terms with several of the designers who’s pieces are up for purchase. According to a Christies spokesperson, the lots for auction include ‘some of the most iconic and cutting-edge haute couture of the early21st century, owned and worn by Daphne Guinness.’
The Telegraph, who were lucky enough to get a sneaky look at her wares have highlighted ‘a strapless "bubble dress" by French couturier Christian Lacroix; a white silk mini dress by London Fashion Week designer Christopher Kane; a silver minidress by her late friend Alexander McQueen and a selection of the heel-less shoes she is famed for wearing by Norita Tatehana.’
The auction itself is estimated to raise approximately £100,000 for the charity which she set up in Isabella’s memory and whose mission is to continue supporting new and emerging talent in the art and fashion world. Prices start from a very reasonable £300 but with key pieces like the Alexander McQueen dress estimated to raise anything in the region of £15,000 - £20,000! Wowsers.
Whether you just want to have a little look or if you fancy a bit of a bidding war, The Daphne Guinness Collection; Sold to Benefit the Isabella Blow Foundation will take place on 27 June 2012 at Christie’s South Kensington saleroom, 85 Old Brompton Road. The contents of the sale will be on public exhibition at Christie’s from 23 to 27 June 2012.
