    Bringing blogging to another level

Do you blog? Are one of an estimated 100,000 bloggers in the Philippines who blog for fun, profit or to push advocacies?

If you aren’t, have you ever thought about starting one?

If you are, and you’re serious about it, then this event might prove useful: on Saturday, February 11, 2012, the Yuchengco Museum and the Freelance Writers Guild (FWGP) is conducting a writing clinic called “Bringing Culture into BLOGGING 101.” It will be the first in a series of four writing workshops.

“Media practitioners, journalists and writers are the links by which cultural information and education is disseminated to the general public,” said museum curator Jeannie Javelosa.

By teaming up with FWGP, Yuchengco Museum can focus on catering to the needs of the creative industries.

Javelosa hopes that “collaborative ventures that will highlight culture as an intrinsic and central pillar for development directions.”

    The experts
Set to share his insights is Christian blogger and radio DJ Ganns Deen who will tackle “Blogging 101.”

Janette Toral, author of books such as “Blogging From” and “DigitalFilipino.com Ecommerce Workshop E-Book,” will talk about SEO or Search Engine Optimization, which is a process that improves the visibility of your blog.

Dannie Alvarez of the Yuchengco Museum will give a theoretical framework on culture, while Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Architect Isabel “Cookie” Berenguer Asuncion will discuss the topic, “Let the Eyes Speak, Articulating the Language of Design.”

    Seeking new talent
FWGP founder Ime Morales says that the series aims to unearth new writers from among the participants of the seminars. One of the aims of the writers’ guild is to mentor writers into improving their craft.

FWGP is composed of journalists, feature writers, copywriters, researchers and documenters, blog writers, screenwriters, literary writers, and SEO experts.

FWGP hopes to lend a helping hand to freelance and upcoming writers by improving their skills, expanding their understanding of new media and recognizing the opportunities that exist in the digital world.

Workshop fees are pegged at P1,800.
