Six (non-candy) Halloween treats for kids

If you are expecting trick-or-treaters to visit your home this Halloween, you can give them candies, chocolates, sugar rush, and toothache like everybody else.

Or you can be more creative and give them something they would not expect.

Warning: There is a slight risk that you will be a “killjoy” to the kids but you will definitely be a rock star to the parents. You can always tell the kids that it’s called TRICK or treat for a reason. *wink*

1. Children’s books

Story books, board books, activity books — you know the drill. Pick a variety and give the kids the option to choose the title they want. Tipid tip: Buy books on sale or scour bargain bookstores.

2. Crayons

Crayons are a child’s very first art supply and will be a staple until his growing years. Problem is, crayons vanish easily. Kids use them up or lose them, whichever comes first. That’s why kids can never get enough crayons.

3. Coloring books

Those crayons need a partner. Your neighbor’s walls will thank you for it.

4Blowing bubbles

Kids get a kick out of creating, chasing, and popping bubbles. Admit it — you do, too! Blowing bubbles is also a great way to release stress for both kids and adults. Don’t you want to buy or make one for yourself, too?

5. Balloons

You can get those foil helium ones that come in different characters. If you’re talented, you can twist some balloon animals for the kids, too.

6. Snacks

Prepare small packs of animal crackers or pretzels. You can also get cereals that come in small boxes. Add in a carton of juice or milk while you’re at it.
