The Best of Sao Paulo Fashion Week Summer 2012!!!!

After a week of back to back shows, ritzy street style and bling-tatsic FROWs, Sao Paulo Fashion Week came to a close this weekend. So what did we learn from our decampment to Latin America's biggest city? Firstly as Moda Opernadi's Taylor Tomasi Hill agrees, "There is a lot of serious talent in Brazil." From ultra luxe sportif styles at Reinardo Lourenco to Paula Raia's ethereal goddess gowns, Brazilian designers have their very own brand of fashion fabulousness going on. Check out the top highlights of SPFW - these names are about to burst on the international scene, so time to get swatting up.

The Best of Sao Paulo Fashion Week Summer 2012!!!!

1. The Lourenço Family aka SP Fashion Mafia

You may have heard of wunderkind designer Pedro Lourenço - a breakout star at Paris fashion week who started designing aged 12 (actually). But its his parents that are the big news here in Sao Paulo. Pedro's dad Reinardo staged the slickest show of the season at the column-tastic Museu de Arte Brasileira. The models with their shiny ponies and sun kissed skin sashayed down the mezzanine runway in a collection inspired by boats and Mediterranean summers. The fine craftsmanship of the heavily stitched dresses in sporty silhouettes showed why he has been one of Brazil's most respected designers for the past two decades.

Team Lourenço also had a sexy contribution from Gloria Coelho - otherwise known as Mama (wife to Reinardo, mother to Pedro). Her line of futuristic sheer latex insert dresses and separates brought a clean, minimalist note to proceedings. So what does the young Pedro think of his home town? When we caught up with him backstage at mum Gloria's show he said "Sao Paulo is a mad crazy mess. The worst things are like the insane traffic and pollution. The best thing is the energy and beauty behind the madness. When you grow up here you learn to relax and let it take you along with it." We've said it once and we'll say it again, Graziadaily loves a bit of crazy.

2. The Ridic Models

Paris, London, Milan, New York TAKE NOTE! Sao Paulo's models are by far the best we have ever seen. Yes casting agents have the advantage of the world's most beautiful women sitting right on their doorstep, but girls here - while impossibly toned, tall and tanned - look athletic, strong and dare we say it healthy in comparison to their main fashion week counterparts. With enough Victoria's Secret models to please even Leonardo de Caprio's tastes - we enjoyed appearances form Rosie H-W, Ana Beatriz Barros, Candice Swanepoel and Izabel Goulart - all the models from the bikini bodies to the shop stopping openers were zeriously hot.

3. Our Fave Trends

SPFW just like every other fashion week is awash with trends. Designers at Neon, Ronaldo Frago and Adriana Degreas looked to tribes from Africa to the Amazon for some pattern-tastic looks. A perennial summer winner, we'd love to rock these prints on this side of the Atlantic. Tuxedos were also on the minds of several Brazilian designers with Alexandre Herchcovitch (whose line was inspired by our very own Boy George), Triton and Teca all exploring the look. We were also major fans of the architectural geometry inspirations behind some of Brazil's best prints. Our top picks were Fernanda Yamamoto and Triton where the angles of the city's skyscrapers came to life.

4. Top Beauty

While we saw some out there beauty looks which we are pretty sure won't be catching on, in the main SPFW's beauty looks concentrated on healthy sheer skin and glamorous hair. Our favourite trends were the fierce top-knots at Adriana Degreas and Andre Lima, the poodle perms at Alexandre Herchcovitch and FH and the mystical three tone eyes at Juliana Jabour. Not quite as sure about the snake head pieces at Ronaldo Frago though!
