Beauty's foundation

Photo by AFP RelaxAside from all the make-up out there, there are smaller sub-categories within all of them as well. Finding the right foundation is almost like a treasure hunt and with the selection you have out there, it may take you a while to find your perfect finish and shade. Remember to test the product before you commit. The best place is on your jawline and make sure you have no make-up on. If possible, try to test the foundation under natural light for the best assessment if the color is right for you. If it blends into your skin completely then bingo, you’ve got a winner. Remember though that you may need to switch to another type of foundation when summer rolls around. Frequent beach trips may make you a few shades darker so keep a second bottle handy for beach vacations! Confused on which type to get? Here’s a guide to help you out:

Liquid. This is the most commonly used type because it is easy to apply and the most lightweight. For people with dry or combination skin, an oil based foundation will work for you because it will give your skin the hydration it needs whilst giving enough coverage to even out your skin. For women with normal to oily skin, you may opt for a water-based foundation to fit your needs. Liquid bases can be applied with a foundation brush for a better finish and so as not to waste too much of it. If your skin is flawless and you only need a little bit, use your fingers instead.

Cream.
If you want medium to heavy coverage, cream is the way to go. Women with dry skin will love this because it offers rich moisture accompanied with full coverage. For a less “made-up” finish, you can forego powder or just apply on key areas such as the T-zone. You can apply this type of foundation either with a sponge or, for a smoother finish, your fingertips.

Cream-to-Powder.
This type of foundation is good for oily skinned women who want to control shine and feel like they aren’t wearing foundation. It gives medium coverage and goes on like a light cream that turns to powder when blended. This can be applied with a wet or dry make-up sponge.

Stick.
Stick foundations are perfect for women on the go who don’t have much time to bother with sponges and brushes. It gives medium to heavy coverage and can be applied directly on to the skin. Your fingers can then be used to warm the product and allow it to absorb into your skin so as not to leave any streaks or marks on your face. Dust on a bit of loose powder after and you’re all set.

Tinted Moisturizer.
This gives minimal and very sheer coverage. They won’t cover any blemishes but will help in evening out skin tone. This is recommended for women with normal to dry skin and general blemish-free faces. Apply with your fingers as you would your regular moisturizer. These are perfect for the summer months when it is too hot to wear regular foundation.

Powder.
This is for women who want to keep oil at bay and minimize pores. It gives a fresh appearance even as it has medium coverage. It can be applied with either a big powder brush, or for a more flawless and precise finish, a sponge may be used.
