Beauty agenda: COSMETICA Hannover, Spicebomb from Viktor & Rolf

The new year in beauty kicks off with Germany's prestigious COSMETICA Hannover international trade fair, which is now in its ninth edition and offers an insight into all the latest make-up innovations. Taking place at the Messe Hannover, this is the ninth edition of COSMETICA Hannover, organized by KOSMETIK international Messe GmbH, which has been running German trade fairs for more than thirty years. Expect product launches and new treatments from across the beauty industry as well as live demonstrations, make-up trends and an insight into upcoming technological innovations. Last year the event welcomed 280 companies to the 11,500 square-meter exhibition area, with some 10,526 visitors turning up to see special guests such as celebrity stylist Astrid Rudolph and make-up artist Ulrike Schütze.

Spicebomb from Viktor & Rolf

UK and Netherlands, then international

Amsterdam-based fashion house Viktor & Rolf will introduce its first men's fragrance, entitled Spicebomb. As the counterpart to popular female fragrance Flowerbomb, Spicebomb features notes of chili, saffron, leather, bergamot, grapefruit, and pink pepper. The fragrance will launch exclusively January 23 at UK department store Harrods and Bijenkorf in the Netherlands. It will then be rolled out internationally, with a mid-February debut in France and a March 1 launch in the US.

Stella McCartney L.I.L.Y

Standing aside from the recent dominance of floral and fruity scents in the fragrance market, British fashion designer Stella McCartney recently announced the top note for her latest fragrance L.I.L.Y is truffle. The scent, which features notes of lily of the valley and oak moss, will launch exclusively in the UK at department store Selfridges January 26 before reaching other retailers February 15. It will begin selling worldwide as of March, with a US launch in September at beauty chain Sephora.

2nd Elements Showcase

Launched in 2011, this innovative curated fragrance and design show is the first event to bring together America's industry leaders, buyers and independent brands -- both emerging and established. The debut edition attracted buyers such as Barneys New York, Opening Ceremony, Oak, West Elm and Tomorrowland from Japan. Exhibitors included bath, body and fine fragrance brands such as Lubin, Santa Maria Novella, Eau d'Italie, Lorenzo Villoresi, Carner Barcelona and DayNa Decker. Organizers include Frederick Bouchardy, founder of fragrance vendor Joya, and Ulrich Lang of perfume house Ulrich Lang New York.
