Wowsers kiddo – someone is taking their craft as an actress tres seriously! Yes, we are talking about the gorgeous Anne Hathaway who has chopped off her lovely brown locks for the role of Fantine in new movie, ‘Les Miserables’.

Now we love an elvin pixie crop – think Michelle Williams, Carey Mulligan, Mia Farrow – but this is a rather more drastic style, especially for the lady who once cited Kate Middleton as “an advocate for dressing like a lady”, admitting that “right now my fashion choices are all about Kate Middleton”, aka: The Lady With The Most Glorious Hair.

Anne Hathaway's hair: before and after

At the Golden Globes last year, we saw Anne rocking a particularly K-Middy-esque hairstyle, letting her loose waves flow to one side. But she was snapped leaving The Box in London last week looking, well, considerably lighter on the volume front. At least she’ll save some cash on shampoo, eh?

Of course, Anne has had short hair for a role before – the actress underwent several style transformations when playing the role of Emma in the adaptation of David Nicholls’ novel, ‘One Day’. But rather than taking the plunge, she wore a series of wigs to create the different looks to span the two decades over which the film is set, thus saving her princessy tresses.

Nonetheless, this proves Ms Hathaway's commitment to her chosen profession and she joins the ranks of bona fide Hollywood starlets who've also lost their locks for a role. Who can forget Natalie Portman’s turn in ‘V for Vendetta’ when the shaving of her head was actually filmed for a scene in the movie? Pretty powerful stuff. Demi Moore donned the shaved look in 'G.I. Jane' and Sigourney Weaver went shaved in Alien3.

Hats off to Hathaway though – it’s a brave look and not one that just anybody could pull off. But with her beautiful features and chiselled cheekbones, we totally think she’s working it and can’t wait to see how she rocks the look when she hits the red carpet to promote ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ this summer.
