50 Shades of Grey Clothing Line Set to Launch!

News that a fashion licensing deal has be signed with 50 Shades of Grey author E.L.James has been greeted with glee by Christian and Ana’s excitable fanbase – currently 40 million and counting. American licensing company CopCorp has confirmed that THREE different companies will be cashing in on Grey-mania. HYP will be selling Grey-themed hosiery, garters (already getting raunchy) and tights; FREEZE will be spinning Grey hoodies, knits and tees while Briefly Stated will sell a varied collection of daywear, loungewear, sleepwear and lingerie.

So what can we expect from these purveyors of soft porn themed accoutrements? Trackies with hand prints gratuitously placed atop of each bum cheek? Handcuff charms and key fobs? Or will they stick to the descriptions of the book and go for simple silk panties and cashmere pjs? Either way customers are bound to clamour – 50 Shades has already been credited with causing a spike in sales in ties and rope.

But with brands like Agency Provocateur and Kiki de Montparnasse already serving up high class kink with aplomb, we do wonder how comparatively tasteful BSDM inspired hosiery can possibly be. As speculation around the casting of the 50 Shades film continues to rumble – with writer Bret Easton Ellis getting flak for his comments on a potential casting’s sexuality (Matt Bomer was apparently “Too openly gay to play CG”) – could 50 Shades fervour be reaching a tipping point? With merchandise deals cashing in on the phenomenon, could we be at risk of 50 Shades OD? Or are you Christian and Ana 4Ever? Either way we can bet E.L James is signing all the way to the bank - to the reported tune of $1.4m per week!
