5 Ways To Stay Fresh While Traveling

Between planes and buses, tourist landmarks to another, it can be hard to stay and look fresh while traveling. But you don’t want to look sleep deprived and unkempt in those travel photos now, do you? So here you go–our tips on how you can stay and look fresh during your travels, even if you’ve been up and about for the past 24 hours.

1. Pack in a travel size toothbrush and toothpaste
One of the fastest ways to freshen up? By having minty fresh breath! Nobody wants to be seated next to someone with bad breath. Besides, the burst of fresh mint will instantly “wake” you up. So pack in that portable toothbrush and toothpaste, and take the opportunity to brush your teeth whenever possible. While you’re at it, bring along a small bottle of mouthwash especially if you are on the plane. Foul breath is hardly the way to greet the immigration officer.

2. Bring some eye goodies
So you’re sleep deprived and jet lagged. Your eyes don’t have to give it away. Make sure to pack in your favorite eye cream to soothe tired eyes. Also, some eye drops may do the magic too by clearing eyes from redness and dryness. Forgot both? No worries–just ask the restaurant or hotel for a cold can of soda. Wipe it down with a napkin first before you place over your eyes. Instant refresher!

3. Skip the happy hours in a foreign land
Same rules apply in a foreign land if you’re trying to keep a fresh disposition the next day – skip the alcohol the night before. In fact, if you can, skip it your entire trip. Alcohol will tire you out and cause dehydration, which can ruin your complexion by making it splotchy and red. And because you’re up and about, it can be easy to forget that you need to drink plenty of water. So if possible, bring along a water bottle so you can guzzle up all the time as well as get refills from restaurants. While you’re at it, avoid eating salty food to prevent further dehydration. The same rule applies when you’re on the plane. Say no to the miniature wine bottles; cabin air can really suck the moisture out of your skin, what more mixing it with alcohol in your system. Opt for good-old H2O instead.

4. Mist Up

Speaking of water, why not pack along a water mist with the rest of your travel essentials? This can be an instant refresher especially if you’re traveling in a hot and humid weather condition or in a crowded bus. Just a spritz or two is enough to freshen up.

5. Forget Makeup
It’s too much effort–the foundation, the eyeshadow, the blush, the eyeliner. We’ve not even talked about makeup meltdown yet (imagine the mess on your face by mid-day). Our take? Skip the makeup and slather on a hydrating moisturizer instead. If you need coverage, then use a tinted moisturizer for a fresh complexion. And please, don’t forget the SPF! Last thing you want is damaged skin that looks rough and dry on photos.

6. Get Your Zzzs
After all, you’re on a holiday… so there’s no need to wake up early in the morning for work. If you’re on a long-haul flight, make sure to switch your watch immediately as per your destination. This way, you can start sleeping at the right hours and not end up with jet lag (and a tired complexion). While you’re at it, dab on some super-rich cream on your face to keep skin moisturized. On vacation? Leave the alarm clock out of the holiday itinerary and sleep in.
