10 Cheap Ways to Go Green and Save Green

MensXP/ShutterstockCaring for the environment is a responsibility, which must be shared by each one of us.

To go green, you don’t need to shell out big bucks or invest in fancy technologies, rather incorporate changes in your daily lifestyle. There are many little things that can go a long way in saving the environment.

1. Install CFLs

They are one of the most popular ways to go green. Not only do they last longer, but also save on your electricity bills while contributing to the environment in a small way.

2. Go for Solar Water Heaters

While their price may initially hurt your pocket a little, in the long run they prove to be extremely cost effective. Geysers and thermostats guzzle huge amounts of electricity, which can completely be avoided by switching to solar water heaters.

3. Make the Shift from Disposable to Reusable

Seldom do people notice that disposable utensils, razors and household items cost much more on the long haul and add significantly to your waste. Reusable and durable products offer more value for money as well as the environment.

4. Eat In

Home-cooked meals are cheaper, healthier and they also don’t hurt the environment much. The copious amounts of packaging material used by fast food chains cause shocking amounts of waste adding to the pressure on our environment.

5. Switch to a Bicycle

You can always opt for a bicycle to commute to nearby places such as your gym, market etc. A bicycle does not cost much, saves on your fuel bills and also cuts on air and noise pollution.

6. Say No to Bottled Water

Bottled or packaged water causes a lot of wastage and hurts the environment dearly. Switch to water purifiers to augment your savings and cut back on your waste.

7. Work on your Laundry Skills

Always use detergents and cleaning agents sparingly as most of the times you only require a very little amount to get the intended result. Also wash your clothes only when they actually warrant a wash. You can always use a ‘not so dirty’ shirt probably a day more.

8. Recycle and Reuse

Recycling your old electronics, household products, plastic bottles, aluminum cans are amongst the best ways to make a contribution to the environment. Reusing plastic grocery bags also proves to be nifty and environment friendly.

9. Go for Herbal Beauty Products

You would be surprised to know that there are so many things in your kitchen that can be used as beauty products. Go the herbal way to keep your skin as well as the environment happy.

10. Turn Everything off

It’s one of the easiest things to do to go green but it is also the easiest to be forgotten. Turn off lights, fans or any other electrical appliances when not in use. Also avoid putting your laptops and PCs on sleep mode as they still consume a significant amount of power even in sleep mode.

We all should put in individual efforts to make way for a better future. Our environment plays an integral role in our sustenance, so it is important that we preserve and keep it the way it always has been i.e. Green.
